New Zimbabwe leader's first speech after Mugabe's resignation.

The incoming Zimbabwe President, Emmerson Mnangagwa has made his first public appearance where he gave his first speech since he was fired

- Addressing an adoring crowd, he said that the country was witnessing the unfolding of a new democracy in a speech that was all about the Zimbabwean people

- The feared leader went into exile in South Africa after he was ironically fired by Mugabe in November 6

- 97- year-old Mugabe had been the country's president for the past 37 year and was forced to resign after a military takeover

Zimbabwe's incoming President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, made his first public appearance on Wednesday, November 22 after Mugabe fired him on Monday, November 6.

Mnanagwa, whose sacking as vice president triggered a military takeover told the crowd that the country was witnessing the beginning of a new and unfolding democracy.

“The people have spoken. The voice of the people is the voice of God,” he told supporters. “Today we are witnessing the beginning of a new and unfolding democracy.”

According to Uganda's Daily Monitor, the speech was all about Zimbabwean people where he urged them to come together and work closely to enable the country's economic growth.

"we want to grow our economy, we want jobs... all patriotic Zimbabweans should come together and work together." he said

The 75-year-old, praised the military and said he had been in constant communication with the army chiefs throughout the period between his firing and his return to Zimbabwe.

He said the armed forces, "have been able to manage this process very peacefully."

Nicknamed "crocodile" due to his feared reputation, he gained popularity, after Mugabe's iron grip ended in a shocking announcement to parliament where MP's had convened to impeach him.

TUKO.co.ke reported that Music, dance and tears of joy had filled the streets of Zimbabwe following Robert Mugabe's historic exit on Tuesday, November 21 after 37 years in power.

Zimbabwe's ruling party ZANU-PF had summoned its members of parliament to commence President Robert Mugabe's impeachment after he refused to exit office peacefully.

The impeachment procedures were however cut short after the 93-year-old shocked the MPs with his resignation announcement.
