Ronaldo Makes History, Breaks Own UCL Record Twice

SAN FRANCISCO, November 22, (THEWILL) – Cristiano Ronaldo broke his own Champions League scoring record on Tuesday night in Real Madrid’s rout against APOEL.

Ronaldo put his difficult start to the season behind him with two historic goals in Madrid’s 6-0 win in Cyprus and now has 18 UEFA Champions League (UCL) goals in 2017.

Incredibly, the goals were Ronaldo’s 17th and 18th in the Champions League in this calendar year and he’s the first player to ever hit 17 in one year.

Ronaldo held the previous best for the 16 goals he notched in 2015 but he’s broken that record and increased it to create another piece of history in his illustrious career.

The Portuguese also teed up Karim Bemzema during a meeting with APOEL to record his 27th assist in Europe’s premier club competition over the last 10 years.

Nobody can claim to have bettered that return, with the four-time Ballon d’Or winner and recent recipient of the top award in the Goal 50 continuing to raise the bar when it comes to individual achievement.

This means that Ronaldo has provided more assists than any other player in UCL in the last 10 seasons

Ronaldo already topped the charts regarding all-time Champions League assists, with his tally lifting him above Barcelona talisman Messi and other iconic figures such as Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs and Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

He is also the leading marksman among the continental elite, as the only man to have netted more than 100 times among elite competition.

Ronaldo has also scored more goals for the same club than any other player in UCL history
