A Night of Praise, Prayer & Fellowship: Highlights of #TheExperience 2017

The 12th edition of the annual The Experience concert ended a few minutes ago (as at the time of this report) and it was really an amazing time of praise and worship to God at Tafawa Balewa Square, in the heart of Lagos Island.

It was also the most talked about show on Twitter between the evening of December 1st and the early hours of December 2nd, proving once again how social media can be a tool to connect worshipers.

Missed it? You can watch live recordings here. We’ve also compiled the highlights of the night.

The event was well attended by political leaders as well as other industry leaders. Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Jimi Agbaje, Femi & Justice Jumoke Pedro, DG Budget Office Ben Akabueze, Minister of Industry, Trade & Investment Okechukwu Enelamah, Abbah Folawiyo, Abimbola Fashola, Former Lagos state deputy governor Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire among others were in attendance.

See highlights below:

Tim Godfrey

Energetic, vigorous and powerful are some of the words used to describe the gospel music star’s ministration last night. Whether you were live at TBS or were watching from home, you could definitely feel the energy. For example, see this tweet:

He’s been blending comedy with music for years but not until 2016 did people start hearing about him. We love how he remixes any song to any type of song basically.

He did a rendition of the popular “Aye le oh” song where he performed as both Kirk Franklin and Tope Alabi.

Chioma Jesus

She did not only take us back to the East, but also into God’s presence with her ministration. From the slow tempo of songs classified as “worship” to the fast-paced style of the unique “Aba” sound, Chioma Jesus’ ministration was loved by everyone.

Nathaniel Bassey

Nathaniel Bassey, the convener of one of the biggest social media movements in Nigeria, and probably Africa – #HallelujahChallenge – also ministered last night and it was powerful as expected.

The time Donnie McClurkin was joined on stage by Travis Greene, Micah Stampley & Nathaniel Bassey

How is it like having four of your favourite gospel musicians on stage, the same day, at the same time? It was truly amazing.

Chioma Jesus took us to the Eastern part of Nigeria, Tope Alabi reminded us the concert is holding in the west with her beautiful and powerful ministration. With the ever lovely “Oriki” – a Yoruba word for songs of praise – Tope Alabi led us into another round of praise to God. You just gotta love the way God is praised in the Nigerian and African culture.

The Crowd!

It’s such a good thing to see Nigerians put away religious, ethnic, political, doctrinal and other forms of division for a common goal. No official figure has been given yet, but we are sure it’s nothing less than the 500,000+ persons that attend yearly.
