 THIS is the heartstopping moment fishermen leap to safety seconds before a huge speedboat slams into their vessel.

The astonishing GoPro footage captures Marlin Lee Larsen's 31-foot motorboat ploughing into Bryan Maess' 20-foot fishing boat on the Columbia River, Oregon.

Bryan frantically waves his arms to get the speedboat's attention as he screams 'hey!'

He had been out fishing with passengers Christopher McMahon and Roni Durham at the mouth of the Pacific Ocean.

A passenger screams: "Oh my god!" as he realises the other boat is not going to stop.

Then with a millisecond to spare, the trio leap into the water before their boat is torn to shreds.

The speedboat ploughs into fishermen's vessel seconds after they hit the water

Maess, 47, an off-duty police officer suffered injuries to his ankle, leg and arm.

The part-time fisherman is now suing the other sailor for £269,000 - and claims his passengers were also injured.Larsen, 75, told investigators he unable to see the other boat from his sitting position.

It is believed he uses a motorised scooter on land.
